BIOECONOMY Cluster (Serbia)

The BIOECONOMY cluster was founded in June 2022 by transforming the AGROINDUSTRY cluster, which was formed in 2010. The main goal for which the AGROINDUSTRIJA cluster was formed as a precursor organization is to encourage, improve and develop agricultural production and the food industry on the territory of the Republic of Serbia and especially the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. By participating in two projects: BIOECO RDI (2018-2020) – ADRION Program and GODANUBIO (2020-2022) – Danube Transnational Program, based on the experience of developed EU member states, they recognized a chance for their further development and connection in the concept of circular bioeconomy. Through the good experiences of Cluster AGROINDUSTRIJA, members were able to see in a real business environment the advantages of a cluster organization as a network of interconnected companies, which are jointly linked to the same type of business, in cooperation with relevant institutions, representatives of the academic community and civil society.

The term CIRCULAR BIOECONOMY

The term circular bioeconomy refers to the use of renewable biological resources originating from land and sea, such as crops, forests, fish, animals and microorganisms for the production of food, materials and energy. A stronger development of the bioeconomy will help humanity to accelerate progress in the transformation of linear to circular and low-carbon economy. This concept will help modernize and strengthen the industrial base of EU member states as well as candidate countries in creating new value chains and greener, more profitable industrial processes, while protecting biodiversity and the environment.
